When Not To Go On A Juice Fast
You may have heard about juice fasting and how astonishing it’s benefits are for health and detoxification. No doubt, juice fasting can do wonders to help you lose weight and keep the weight off, as well as boost your immune system, heal (and help avoid) almost any disease. However, there are occasions and circumstances where a juice fast is not the best idea. When NOT to go on a juice fast is an important consideration for anyone who is contemplating this form of detoxification.
For starters, if you have a serious medical condition, one that could easily be worsened by a change in your diet or increase in physical activity, you should be under the care of a qualified and knowledgeable physician. They will be able to determine if juice fasting is appropriate for you. You may also want to consider contacting a cleanse coach. A cleanse coach is someone who has experience with the ups and downs of fasting and can guide you safely through or around any health issues that might make fasting in your particular condition a challenge.
However, for obvious reasons, there are some specific medical conditions where a juice fast is not recommended. If you suffer from liver failure, kidney failure, malnutrition, heart failure, tuberculosis or low blood pressure, then juice fasting is not in your best interest. This fact also holds true for anyone who is scheduled for surgery. Women who are pregnant or nursing should simply avoid juice fasting until after birth and after their child has been weaned. In these cases, the deep tissue cleansing that occurs during the rapid detox that juice fasting facilitates could stress or tax an already burdened system. But don’t despair, you can still detoxify and experience a greater sense of lightness and well-being, but you would do best to look toward other types of cleanses first, such as gently cleansing the colon. And, of course, always do so under the supervision of a qualified medical or health practitioner.
While those with the aforementioned conditions should avoid a juice fast entirely and seek more gentler methods for cleansing their systems, there are also some conditions that require special attention when fasting. Those who have diabetes, anemia, cancer, epilepsy, asthma, peptic ulcers, ulcerative colitis, eating disorders or impaired immunity should only consider attempting a juice fast under the care of a knowledgeable doctor or qualified cleanse practitioner. These people may simply need to emphasize certain juices to heal their conditions or steer clear of others. But just as every body is different, each individual’s needs are different, and a qualified cleanse coach can help you formulate the most effective plan for your particular scenario so that you will get the most out of your juice fasting experience.
There is no doubt that juice fasting is a powerful and time tested healing modality that, when done correctly, can yield miraculous results. However, because juice fasting is such a powerful method of detoxification, you DO need to exercise caution and listen to your body and your intuition carefully. They will ALWAYS tell you if you’re on the right track. Never push yourself beyond what feels good and always nurture yourself in the process. And, whether you decide to fast or not, flooding your body with enzyme, vitamin and mineral rich juices from fresh fruits and vegetables will amp up your health no matter what your condition may be. So, bring on the juice and bring on life force!
