How Apple Juice Can Boost Your Health and Well Being

Many people have discovered how juicing and drinking juice is a fantastic way to get your daily quotas of fruit and vegetables and can be incorporated successfully into any health or fitness regime. One fruit that is especially popular is apple juice. This is because there are so many different varieties, many tasty blends can be made. There are, however, some relatively unknown benefits.

Apple juice is excellent in helping the function of the digestive system and for aiding the function of the kidneys. It is in the digestive tract that its cleansing properties makes apple juice a very popular drink. However, apple juice is also capable of purifying the blood and is very useful as a general tonic for the liver and skin.

Apples each have around 16 calories per ounce and contain a great number of vitamins including riboflavin, thiamine, carotene, vitamin B6, biotin and folic acid. It was once believed that apples contained high levels of vitamin C, however, it has since been discovered not to be the case.

The levels of vitamin C can vary quite a bit from apple to apple, and range from about 2mg to 35mg per hundred ounces. The types of apples that contain the highest levels of this vitamin are, Golden Noble, Ontario and Bramleys.

The highest vitamin C rich fruits are the ones such as oranges and lemons. Apples do, however, contain higher levels of minerals and many antioxidants like tannic acid.

Fresh apple juice has a tendency to oxidize very quickly and can turn an unpleasant brown color. This can be reduced or prevented by putting the juice in the fridge quickly or by applying some fresh lemon juice to the drink. This has the added benefit of giving some extra flavor to the juice.

Another chemical that is found in apples are the group known as polyphenols. Research has suggested that these chemicals may help reduce the incidence of Alzheimers disease and other dementia related illnesses. Also, apples contain chemicals similar to those found in tea and red wine which are responsible for breaking down the bad cholesterol in the bloodstream which is largely responsible for heart disease.

As this article shows, not only are apples a tasty, healthy snack, but drinking them as a juice can be an important source of vitamins and nutrients that can help keep you healthy.
