That Steak House was eaten at by many famous gangsters and Depp (who has openly admitted to having a problem getting OUT of character) had just finished playing Dillinger, who was very free with the money he stole…I.E: Depp tipped as Dillinger would have!

By-Law if your job …
By-Law if your job includes getting tips, their is a legal minimum wage lower than the standard that employers are allowed to pay if they choose to (Canada has terminated that law and now all wokder must be payed minimum). Also i think a percentage of all waiters tips should be split with all the busboys but not with the other waiters. Tips are based on personal performance and would be unfair to have to share your hard earnings. Other waiters may earn the same with greater service quality.

I think that he should share it with the staff.
Sounds like Johnny had been coming there regularly and this latest tip was an expression of how much he enjoyed all of his visits. Chances are that this waiter didn’t wait on him every time. Regardless of who his waiter was he would probably have given an extremely large tip.
Stupid that in your WHOLE converstion you guys never mentioned the people that MADE the food the Johnny liked. The kitchen staff should definitely have a share.

No chefs anywhere …
No chefs anywhere get tipped. If your a chef and you would like a job that pays on tips alone than change your occupation. For every great tipper there is a douche bag that doesn’t tip. A chef will make the same amount whether or not its busy any given night. A server must make a living off the kindness of his patrons. In Colorado, servers make $2.13 an hour. Now that is not fair….

My daughter got a restaurant job when she turned 14 and her employer claimed that because she got a small percentage of the tips (she was a busser) he could pay her less than minimum wage. Sounds like BS to me.

Johnny Depp is a VERY nice person. It’s just enjoying the company of friends and having the means to treat them to a fancy evening. It’s enjoying the company of his friends. You can’t take it with you to heaven. The man has earned his money so why shouldn’t he be able to take his friends out? I’m happy to see that he’s generous. It feels good to do special things like that for friends and family. Plus it was a celebration regarding his new film. Much respect to Johnny Depp.

The chiefs don’t get paid any better than the wait staff, I know a few– they are expected to be tipped as well.
Seriously, I’ve never had a waiting experience where I thought the person bringing the food to me deserved 15%. The person who MADE the food did though.

What about the cooks who MAKE the food you are eating within a proper amount of time?
Just because the waiter is the one you see, does not mean the waiter is the one providing the majority of you dining experience. All the waiter does it take your order and bring you the food when the cooks have done all the hard work.

Nobody deserves …
Nobody deserves tips besides the waiters. When I leave a tip, I’m leaving an amount based on how much I like the waiter/waitress. Not because busboys clean the table really fast after I leave.
